Since
the late 80’s, SMCI has worked closely with West Valley Nuclear
Services (WVNS) on a decontamination project to process nuclear waste
for long term storage. SMCI was awarded orders to fabricate and machine all of the critical mechanical and structural hot cell components for this project. For all projects dealing with nuclear wastes, SMCI has established and maintained a strict Quality Assurance program meeting ASME NQA-1 guidelines to consistently meet our customers needs and expectations. SMCI fabricated, machined and assembled West Valley’s wall modules with penetration tolerances within ten-thousandths of an inch. These wall modules were supplied using materials of Stainless Steel and epoxy coated carbon steel. The Melter and electrodes were fabricated and machined using our 13 x 35 ft. horizontal mill to maintain close tolerance requirements. ![]() SMCI fabricated the Submerged bed scrubber to ASME code specifications and NQA-1 standards. The unit included internal and exterior piping coils. ![]() SMCI has also manufactured three different “remote” operated mechanical long reach arms for the purpose of cleaning and sample collection in nuclear waste storage tanks. The mechanics of the arm consist of a multi stat hydraulic cylinder using water instead of a petroleum based fluid. The units were all manufactured and tested by SMCI. SMCI manufactured components for The Westinghouse Savannah River Project: Melter components, Transfer Jet Connector, Drain Valve assembly and back flush valves. SMCI has also supplied fabrication and machined products to the Nuclear Power industry to such customers as General Electric, Westinghouse, Florida Power & Light and others. |
